21 — Let’s Talk About Poop!

With Analise Hagstrom RN, MSN, CPNP-PC

This conversation is special to me because Analise cared for our daughter for the first six years of her life and was a provider that I could always count on for kindness and compassion.

We talked about how bowel movements strongly indicate overall health, then focused on constipation. Analise explained that less frequent, firmer, or incomplete bowel movements can be signs, and that triggers include changes in routine, food and drink, illness, and negative experiences such as pain or anxiety.

She recommends starting with lifestyle changes: more fluids, fiber, movement, and consistent meals. If those aren’t enough, over-the-counter options such as polyethylene glycol (MiraLax) or psyllium (Metamucil) can provide short-term relief while you figure out what works long term.
