Welcome to Insight into Health, my radio show on listener-supported KSVY 91.3, where I explore ways to make healthy living realistic, enjoyable, and sustainable. I am your host, Allison McKeany, and these are the show notes for the live radio show that aired on March 9, 2026.
Listen to the episode:
Beyond the What: Honoring Hunger
Jennifer Briscoe returned as my co-host, and we talked about hunger and its many forms, from physical to emotional to social.
The practice of identifying different types of hunger is not meant as an exercise in judgment. Instead, we talked about how exploring hunger with curiosity and compassion allows your body to tell you what it’s really craving.
Let’s Talk: Karen Louise Scheuner
The dietitian community is small and can be isolating, which is why I was thrilled to meet Karen Louise Scheuner earlier this year — a fellow dietitian from Napa who shares my passion for whole-person care.
Karen’s work with her clients involves body trust and intuitive eating as a way to explore the “whys” behind body image challenges and chronic dieting. Karen’s approach moves beyond the number on the scale and instead focuses on developing healthy and sustainable behaviors.
What’s Feeling Alive: Self-Preservation
At the top of the show, I shared how I have been feeling rundown, unfocused, and simply exhausted. I asked Jennifer and Karen about their self-care practices and appreciated it when Karen reframed them as “self-preservation” practices. From connecting with others to being outdoors to spending time in stillness, I left with a good reminder of the value of slowing down.
This conversation reminded me of a podcast I listened to recently: Hidden Brain’s “How Nature Heals Us.”
Thanks for being here,
Allison
