Welcome to Insight into Health, my radio show on listener-supported KSVY 91.3, where I explore ways to make healthy living realistic, enjoyable, and sustainable. I am your host, Allison McKeany, and these are the show notes for the live radio show that aired on June 22, 2026.

Listen to the episode:

Beyond the What: Kathy Hutchinson

Kathy Hutchinson, the Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Medical Integration Coordinator at Active Wellness Center in Petaluma, joined me. Kathy explained how her work differs from that of a physical therapist.

Active Wellness Center has recently been designated as a Medical Fitness Facility by the Medical Fitness Association, and Kathy explained what that designation means and the type of individuals they serve.

Kathy left us with things to consider when choosing a fitness environment that is right for you: comfort, enjoyment, and connection.

You can learn more about the Medical Fitness program at Active Wellness Center here. More about the book Connection Cure that I mentioned on air here.

Let’s Talk: Oliver & Sawyer

I was joined by my neighbors, Oliver and Sawyer, who are headed into 5th and 3rd grade, respectively. They talked about their favorite summer activities, including the Aqua Park at Sonoma Splash, which Oliver described as a “life experience.” Sawyer taught me about the World Cup, and we chatted about their favorite foods within the “Go, slow, whoa” framework.

What’s Feeling Alive: It’s Gleaning Time in the Valley!

Learn more about extrafood.org and their Share the Bounty gleaning program. They are looking for volunteers to harvest and residents who have excess produce they’d like to donate.

We were honored to harvest about 1,500 pounds of excess cabbage yesterday at the one and only Paul’s Produce!

As promised, here are some of my favorite cabbage recipes:

Thanks for being here,

Allison
